Twin-CAM Turbo FAQ's

Where does my Trask 2 Bar Map Sensor Plug into?
The Factory Map Sensor is located between the cylinders next to the Throttle Bodies. Your Trask 2 Bar Map sensor on the 07 and earlier bikes will come pre-wired for a “plug n Play” application. Unplug the factory map sensor, plug the harness end into the Trask 2 Bar map sensor. Leave the factory map sensor installed to plug hole. On 2008 and up bikes there will be a little wiring needed to hook up the 2 bar map sensor. There are instructions supplied when map sensor is ordered, or you can contact Trask Performance Technical Support.

Do I need to do anything to my clutch?
The Turbo system is supplied with a heavy-duty Barnett Clutch spring. It is the only modification needed when bolting on the preset Turbo system. Modifications to the system, I.E. High boost levels, will require a different level of clutching. Contact Trask Performance Technical support.

Why is my bike smoking out the tailpipe?
Check the drain back oil line from the turbo back into the engine, if the line gets restricted for any reason this will allow to much oil to back up into the turbo and will pass by the seal and will appear as smoke out of the tailpipe. Check and make sure the crankcase is not overfull of oil, overfilling the crankcase will allow oil to be circulated into the breather of the plenum then vented into the air filter as oil, when sucked in through the turbo, this will then make the engine burn the oil it's pulling out of the air filter. If you have checked these items and you are still having an issue, please contact Trask Performance Technical support.

Why is my bike no longer producing 8lbs of boost?
Check and clean your air filter, a clogged air filter will mechanically supply drag to the incoming air, not supplying enough airflow to the turbo. Make sure there are no restrictions in the exhaust. Condition of the engine. For this issue contact Trask Performance Technical Support.

Why am I getting oil build-up or dripping out of my air filter?

  1. Dirty Air filter.
  2. Turbo not draining properly.
  3. Check the drain back oil line from the turbo back into the engine, if the line gets restricted for any reason this will allow too much oil to back up into the turbo and can leak through into the compressor housing and when you shut the bike off and lose the vacuum of the engine the oil will run out of the turbo into your air filter. Blow-By. Contact Trask Performance Technical support.

With turbo system installed, I hear what sounds like a top-end tapping or clicking noise at idle, has something happened to my top end?
No, not at all. The noise that you are hearing is the B.O.V (Blow off Valve) pulsing with the strokes of the engine. This is normal operation.

Do I need to change or what kind of oil do I need to run in my bike now that it has a turbo on it?
You can continue to run the 20w 50 Full synthetic oil you have been running, no need to change. This is a very good oil for both the bike and the turbo. Change oil every 2000 to 2500 miles. Be sure not to overfill.

I would like to go run my bike at the track do I need to do anything / I would like to up my boost a little to run it at the track?
Running your bike at the track can be good fun, the only thing you need to do is run at least 100 Octane fuel in it. This is for safety. If you want to up your boost, this needs to be done mechanically on the actuator or you can purchase a boost controller. Call TRASK Tech support so we can walk you through the steps. Note: If you are just running good fuel in it at the track and you are running an autotune system such as a ThunderMax, when you change your fuel over make a few passes down a road at a mild throttle through every gear for the autotune system to tune for the higher octane fuel. Note again: The autotune system on the ThunderMax only begins to autotune at operating temperature, not letting your bike warm up all the way and running through the gears will do no good.

Should I have my bike Dyno Tuned?
We highly recommend having your bike dyno tuned by a reputable Tuning Company. (The system is only as good as the tune) If running a Thundermax and 2 Bar Map sensor Preloaded by Trask You can get away with not dyno tuning the bike.

I was told to let me bike idle after running it, do I really need to do this?
Yes. After riding your turbo bike do not shut the engine off right away, let the engine idle for about 20 seconds or so. This will ensure oil running through the turbo cooling the turbo and resulting in longer turbo life.

V-ROD TURBO FAQs

Where does my Trask 2 Bar Map Sensor Plug into?
The Factory V-Rod Map Sensor is located between the cylinders next to the Throttle Bodies. Your Trask 2 Bar Map sensor will Plug into the FactoryWiring Harness Plug. This will eliminate the usage of the Factory Map sensor. Leave Factory Sensor Installed to Plughole.

Do I need to do anything to my clutch?
The Supplied Clutch springs need to be installed. On 2007 and earlier V-Rods the Factory Clutch came with a clutch with 5 springs. On the 2008 and up V-Rods HD switched to a 4 spring slipper clutch. Your Trask Turbo System is supplied with 100lbs upgraded spring so the Harley clutch will hold the additional horsepower without slipping. Your system no matter the year of the bike will ship with 5 springs. On 08 and newer just don’t use one spring. On the 07 and earlier, use all five springs – If you are worried about the remaining life of your clutch or the added HP on a used clutch you can upgrade you 07 and earlier clutch to the 08 and newer slipper clutch from Harley. – You must run the supplied springs. Not running the supplied spring can cause you to burn through you factory clutch in any year bike.

My Bike is idling rough after my turbo install?
If your bike is idling rough after the install of your Trask Turbo System, the majority of the time it is an air intake leak. To check to see if you have an air intake leak start the bike and then push down onto the plenum assembly if the tone of the engine changes and the idle smooths out then you need to check the seal on your intake boots to the plenum. Most of the time, if you start the bike for the first time and is idling rough or will not at all this, is the case. Loosen all boots, push Down on plenum & Retighten Clamps. If your bike is idling rough and you did the plenum test and the bike continues to idle rough contact TRASK technical support.

My air filter is hitting my radiator shroud.
The air filter has an angle that is built into it since every bike is a little different you may have to place a piece of 3m electrical tape on the shroud, so it does not wear the finish off the shroud. We are in the process of getting another air filter designed with a bit more angle to correct this issue for people who have a rubbing air filter.

I am getting what looks like a small rust streak down the turbo cartridge, what is this?
This is from condensation building on the oil feed fitting and oil feed line and dripping on the center section of the turbo due from going from cold to hot cold to hot. The center sections are coated with heat paint to fix this issue, purchase a can of VHT 2000° flat black spray paint mask and touch up the desired area.
